Panga towed to evidence impound yard

Immigration and customs agents found no signs of drugs in an abandoned smuggling boat discovered Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies say they received a report about the overturned boat near a campground South of Mugu Rock. They did not find any suspects.

Vessel Assist towed the open hulled Mexican panga boat to the Ventura Harbor last night. The boat still had about a dozen gas containers onboard, some of them appeared full.

Paul Amaral, the owner of Vessel Assist, said the boat may have been used for human smuggling. Vessel Assist towed the boat to an Orange County impound yard this morning, where it will be held as evidence.
