Farm company announces closure of Somis location
Layoffs are on the way at one local farm and packing house.
Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks said the board received a letter from Gargiulo Incorporated about its plans to close its Somis site. Although the letter mentioned the layoffs affecting 677 jobs, Parks said not all of the workers live in her district full time.
Garigulo officials reached by phone chose not comment on the reason why they are closing.
The company grows tomatoes and other covered crops throughout the country and around the world.
The closure is scheduled to happen April first. Local residents say that’s no joke. They are hoping another business will continue to farm the land.
