Body of missing diver identified

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has identified the body of a diver found in the waters off Santa Cruz Island.

59-year-old William Arlo Ooms of Solvang was reported missing on Friday afternoon from a 22-foot dive boat named “Coram Deo”.

The National Park Service conducted a search along with officials from Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties. A Coast Guard helicopter also was used.

Several hours later snorkelers from the Coram Deo found his body on the north side of the island.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroners Bureau is conducting an investigation into the cause and manner of death.

A final report is not expected for several weeks.
