Rollover sends vehicle into a tree, and the driver to the hospital

A driver lost control of his sedan this afternoon, and, after a rollover, it slammed into a tree just off Highway 101 in Goleta. The driver sustained serious injuries. The vehicle was crushed on its left side from the impact.

The California Highway Patrol says the 21-year old driver may have been speeding as he entered the freeway and got entangled in merging traffic. That’s when the accident occurred.

The driver was trapped for about 20 minutes. The Santa Barbara County Fire Department provided medical care at the scene as the driver, who was pinned in the car, was rescued. The exact injuries are not known, but they were called “serious.”

The accident occurred about 2:45 p.m. Traffic was backed up for nearly an hour.
