Airstream Trailers Polish Up Auto Camp Hotel Park
With modern amenities, the new Santa Barbara Auto Camp hotel park is now offering guests an overnight stay in a fully refurbished airstream trailer. It’s a cozy throwback for some guests who can stay in one of the four airstreams offered for rent. The location is a team effort between Mesa Lane Partners and Hofmann Architects using the mid town site on De La Vina Street and the rarely seen cluster of airstreams to draw guests.”It’s a unique place, a lodging alternative,” said Ryan Miller with Mesa Lane Partners. Walking into a refurbished 1973 trailer, Matthew Hofmann an expert on rebuilding these trailers said, “this is kind of designed to be a great place to stay. Everyone loves airstreams.”He has seen many older residents take a double look at their lot. “They have a twinkle in their eyes when they see these. It reminds them of criss crossing the country gallivanting in their Bonneville station wagon.”Each trailer has enough sleeping space for four adults, including a luxury bed with fine linens, along with a kitchenette, flat screen t.v., and an outside grill. Guests also get two bikes to see the town. The also have bath tubs and showers, tile floors, and upscale soaps, shampoos and towels changed daily with a staff similar to hotel style room service. But it’s the site that is a selling point for the operators. They want visitors to see the neighborhood, not necessarily just the tourist areas.”People want to understand what a community is all about and it’s that type of experience we’re trying to offer and that connection with community. The place that locals would actually go to,” said Hofmann.Miller looked around at the pizza place up the street, the Mexican food restaurant across the drive way and a local bar saying, “That’s fine. This is a real neighborhood. This is real Santa Barbara. When people stay here they see that. We are really pleased. This is our place too.”Find more information at www.sbautocamp.comKEYT News Channel 3 Senior Reporter John Palminteri has our story.
