DP Boys Basketball Stays Undefeated In Channel League

An early fourth quarter turnover by Santa Barbara led to a sensational dunk by Dos Pueblos senior Zachary Shugart. Another Dons turnover in the final seconds gave the Chargers a 43-41 victory as DP improves to 4-0 in the Channel League and 11-4 overall.Both Cruz Mertens and Shugart led DP with 12 points and they both had dunks. Mertens’ slam at the end of the third quarter gave the Chargers a slim 34-32 lead. Shugart then electrified the gym at Santa Barbara with a one-handed jam with authority over Jack Baker.The Chargers used that momentum to build up a late 41-33 lead but Santa Barbara pulled within two points and had the ball in the final seconds but never managed a shot. Baker and Emilio Gonzalez led the Dons with 13 points apiece but Santa Barbara slips to 1-3 in league.
