Two Students Bring Toy Guns to School

Just after 8 Monday morning, the Simi Valley Police Department was alerted of a possible student with a gun at Santa Susana Elementary School. It turned out that the two elementary students, ages 9 and 10, brought two air soft type handguns with them on their bus ride to school. The School Resource Officer was able to conclude that the children brought the items to school to show each other and had no intentions of violent behavior. It was reported that the toy guns looked very realistic in appearance and could easily be mistaken for real guns. The students were given guidance about the issue and also received suspension from school that day. The parents of the children had no knowledge of the children bringing the toy guns to school. With the unfortunate events in Newtown Connecticut just a few days ago, the Simi Valley Police Department would like to encourage parents to pay close attention to what items their children bring to school and be watchful of any item or action that can be interpreted as threatening or violent.
