The Latest Job Numbers are Out
Santa Barbara- Just hours after President Obama delivers his speech at the Democratic Convention, the August jobs report is released. Ninety-six thousand new jobs were added last month, dropping unemployment from 8.3% to 8.1%.Analysts say part of the reason we saw a drop in unemployment may be because discouraged workers are dropping out of the labor force, and thus not being counted. But this is the 30th consecutive month of job creation in the U.S., with roughly 4.5 million jobs created since the end of the recession. In Santa Barbara County, our unemployment rate is comparable, at roughly 8%, with 3000 jobs created this year. The jobs weremainly administrative, technical, professional business jobs, and hospitality jobs because of our tourism sector. But two areas that have been hit the hardest are construction and manufacturing. On the campaign trail, Mitt Romney says the August Jobs report is disappointing and a clear indication that change is needed. President Obama says that we need to create more jobs faster, but also pointed out that Republicans in Congress had blocked much of his jobs plan.KEY News Reporter Shirin Rajaee reports.
