Santa Barbara Humane Society reaches 1,000 adoptions and counting this year

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Humane Society announced it has just surpassed 1,000 adoptions in 2019.

This last Tuesday, two tuxedo kittens, named Donner and Blitzen, had the privilege of becoming the humane society's 1,000 and 1,001 adoptions this year.

This number of adoptions is equal to the total adoptions from the past three years combined.

In 2016, the humane society said it placed 269 animals, in 2017 it placed 315 and in 2018 it placed 420 animals into loving homes.

“It’s incredible to see how far we have come in such a short span
of time. 1,000 adoptions in a year isn’t something we could have achieved without our amazing staff, dedicated volunteers, loving fosters, wonderful transfer partners, and most importantly, all of the adopters who opened their homes and hearts,” said Kerri Burns, Executive Director of Santa Barbara Humane Society.

While Burns is delighted with the adoption numbers for 2019, she already has great hopes for the next year.

“This is just the beginning for us. We are looking forward to even more adoptions in 2020,” Burns said.

The humane society said it was able to reach this goal by proactively transferring animals in from over-crowded shelters to ones with higher success rate.

Just this Thursday, 40 kittens were flown into the Santa Barbara Airport from the San Diego Humane Society.
