Free human trafficking training for hospitality employers in San Luis Obispo County
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow announced on Monday that the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force is hosting Human Trafficking Awareness Training for hotel and motel employers.
The goal of this seminar is to educate employers on the requirements of Senate Bill 970.
Senate Bill 970, Government Code Section 12950.3, says that hotel and motel employers are required to provide at least 20 minutes of human trafficking training by Jan. 1, 2020.
The training must be interactive and is required for all employees likely to interact with victims of human trafficking.
The District Attorney's Office said the seminar will teach employers everything they need to lead their own trainings on human trafficking including guidance on how to identify at-risk individuals and how hospitality employees should report and respond to such incidents.
The employer seminars will be held at the Christopher G. Money Victim Witness Assistance Center of the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office which is located in Room 384 at 1035 Palm Street in San Luis Obispo.
Seminars are scheduled for:
- Thursday, Dec. 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Thursday, Feb. 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
- Friday, Feb. 7 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
KCOY will be at the Dec. 12 training which is notably the last training available before the Jan. 1 deadline.
The bill says that employees subject to the January deadline training must be employed as of July 1, 2019, and newer hires must receive training within six months of being hired.
Additional trainings are required every two years.
The District Attorney's Office said that failure to provide such training may result in a court order to comply with the new law.
