Bicyclist hit, killed by car in Oxnard

Oxnard, Calif. -- Multiple agencies responded to a fatal bike crash on Tuesday morning in Oxnard.

On Tuesday at around 8:15 a.m., Oxnard City Fire, Oxnard Police and Ventura CHP responded to reports of a car crash on northbound Rice Avenue south of east Fifth Street in Oxnard.

At arrival officers found that the crash involved a Dodge Ram truck and a bicyclist. The bicyclist died on scene.

In their investigation, they identified the bicyclist to be a 73-year-old Oxnard man and the driver to be a 49-year-old Oxnard woman.

The bicyclist was biking on the northbound side on the right shoulder of Rice Avenue. The woman was driving on the northbound of Rice Avenue in the number one lane.

Investigators say for reasons still unclear, the bicyclist traveled into the number one lane and into the path of the truck.

Paramedics then arrived and pronounced the bicyclist dead on scene.

The northbound number one lane of Rice Avenue was closed for approximately one hour.
