Overturned big rig snarls traffic on HWY 101 in Carpinteria

CARPINTERIA, Calif. - An overturned big rig blocked the right lane of Highway 101 in Carpinteria Tuesday morning.

Northbound traffic was heavily impacted. The California Highway Patrol had closed the northbound lanes at Bailard, but quickly opened one lane.

The crash was reported south of the Santa Monica Road exit. It wasn't immediately clear what the tanker was carrying, but a Caltrans HAZMAT team responded to the scene.

An overturned tanker truck is partially blocking the No. 2 (right) lane of northbound US 101 south of Santa Monica Road in Carpinteria. Traffic is moving slowly in this area. Caltrans, a Haz-Mat team and CHP are on the scene. No estimate for this lane re-opening.@CaltransD5

At 3 p.m., Caltrans said all lanes of Highway 101 were reopened and the roadway was cleared.
