Police investigating after man’s body found at homeless encampment
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- San Luis Obispo police are investigating an incident in the Bob Jones Trail Head area after a man's body was found on Thursday.
On Thursday at around 11 a.m., San Luis Obispo Police Department's Community Action Team and Special Enforcement were out informing people about community programs at some homeless encampments along the Bob Jones Trail between Prado Road and Los Osos Valley Road in San Luis Obispo.
The teams contacted about 10 people in the area and offered a range of services and programs to them.
During their efforts, they came across one tent and found that there was a dead body inside the tent.
Officers determined that it was a man about 60 years old. They say he had been dead for weeks.
Detectives from the police department responded to the scene and began an investigation.
In their investigation, they did not find anything suspicious about the death.
Detectives interviewed people nearby, they said the man had ongoing health issues.
The coroner responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
Investigators say the cause of death is unknown and it will be determined by an autopsy that is scheduled for early next week.
