Police arrest driver after serious traffic incident, charged with driving under the influence in Ventura
VENTURA, Calif. -- Ventura Police arrested one woman who was the driver of a car involved in a serious traffic collision in Ventura on Friday afternoon.
Police arrested Brianna Munoz, 18, for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury.
On November 4, Ventura Police and Ventura City Fire responded to the 2100 block of Johnson Drive after reports of a serious, single vehicle roll-over collision.
Witnesses at the scene believed the driver had walked away from the vehicle leaving two occupants trapped inside the front passenger compartment of the overturned vehicle.
Ventura City Fire personnel removed Munoz from the vehicle and transported her to Ventura County medical Center for her injuries.
Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to extricate Pedro Munoz, 44, who was found pinned inside the driver's window of the vehicle.
Pedro Munoz was transported by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center for serious, life-threatening injuries.
In their investigation, members of the Ventura Police Traffic Unit authored and served several search warrants related to this collision and ultimately identified Brianna Munoz as the driver of the vehicle.
Traffic investigators arrested Brianna Munoz at her place of work around 3:50 p.m. on Friday.
Officials say witnesses mistakenly said the driver had walked away from the collision. When shown the image of an upside-down vehicle, witnesses realized the subject that walked away on the morning of November 4 exited from the passenger side door and not the driver's door.
Officials have yet to identify the person that walked away.
The Ventura Police Traffic Unit is asking anyone with information about this male passenger to contact Collision Investigator Dave Curtis at 805-339-4437.
