SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Pioneer Valley High School is passing out caps, gowns and a lawn sign to celebrate senior accomplishments on Tuesday.

It's one of two schools within the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District that's moving forward with drive-thru cap and gown distributions.

The high school seniors expressed their excitement about the social-distancing event as staff members cheered them on during the drive-thru.

While some shared mixed feelings about being away from school during the coronavirus pandemic, they seemed pleased to be greeted by so many supporters in the community.

Righetti High School has planned a similar drive-thru event to issue caps and gowns to seniors on May 8 in the front of the main entrance.

Santa Maria and High Schools are continuing to make decisions on graduation-related plans.
