Firefighters stop forward progress on ‘River Fire’ burning near Lompoc

Santa Barbara County Fire along with the Lompoc Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the Santa Ynez riverbed in Lompoc.

The fire broke out around 1:15 p.m.

Officials named it the "River Fire" and said its location was near CA-246 & River Park.

Crews reported a wind driven, one acre fire with a moderate rate of spread.

Santa Barbara County Fire says no structures were threatened and no evacuations were needed. I

Forward progress was stopped a few hours after fire crews responded. Officials said the fire reached two acres.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. 

Helicopters and dozers were canceled.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Crews remained on scene to mop up any hot spots.
