SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The City of San Luis Obispo was awarded a $162,000 grant from the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control in order to help lay the city transition to a 100 percent electric bus system.

The city plans to have a full electric bus fleet by 2040.

The grant will go toward necessary design and engineering work needed at the city’s bus yard in addition to paying for the purchase and installation of up to three electric bus charging units.

San Luis Obispo anticipates the charging units will be installed and fully functional by early 2021.

“The City of San Luis Obispo is deeply honored and proud to be receiving this important grant funding that will help lay the foundation for our transition to a 100 percent electric bus fleet by 2040," said City of San Luis Obispo Transit Manager Gamaliel Anguiano. “These funds will go a long way toward helping us to complete this important preparatory work.”
