Former Oxnard metallurgy company reaches half-million dollar settlement in illegal disposal case

A metallurgy company that previously operated in Oxnard has been ordered to pay $500,000 to settle an illegal disposal case.

Arcturus Manufacturing operated at 6001 Arcturus Avenue in Oxnard until Sept. 2017. It is now based in Texas.

Ventura County prosecutors say between June 2016 and Dec. 2016, the company negligently disposed of, or caused the disposal of, hazardous waste at two centers.

Those centers are the Del Norte Recycling Center at 111 S. Del Norte Boulevard in Oxnard and Gold Coast Recycling & Transfer Station at 5275 Colt Street and Sperry Avenue in Ventura.

The District Attorney’s Office said the company used materials in their fabrication process that included titanium, nickel and chromium, all of which are regulated when discarded.

Prosecutors accused Arcturus of violating environmental protection laws and failing to properly store and dispose of hazardous waste.

The half-million dollar settlement will be divided among state and county environmental agencies.

The court also ordered the company to comply with California environmental laws prohibiting unauthorized disposal of hazardous waste and similar laws in the future.
