Texas man who killed father of ex’s new boyfriend pleads guilty in Ventura Superior Court

A Texas man who killed the father of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in 2015 has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges for the man’s death.

Brandon Scott Ellis, 33, of Katy, Texas also pleaded guilty to premeditated attempted murder for shooting his ex-girlfriend.

In December of 2015, Ellis entered a home on the 1600 block of Tapir Circle in Ventura and shot his ex-girlfriend nine times. He also shot 47-year-old Douglas Blasher, killing him. Blasher’s son was dating Ellis’ former girlfriend at the time.

Ellis then fled to Mexico where he was ultimately arrested and extradited.

While in jail, Ellis set off a fire extinguisher and flooded his cell. He was also found in possession of a working handcuff key.

The female victim suffered life-threatening injuries but ultimately recovered.

Ellis is set to be sentenced on June 17. Ellis remains in custody with no bail. He is expected to be sentenced to 72 years to life in prison.
