Revised evacuation maps discussed at storm readiness meetings
A storm readiness meeting focused on the new and revised hazard / evacuation maps in Carpinteria on Wednesday night.
Office of Emergency Management Director Robert Lewin said people need to take the time to study the new maps. He said scientists from a number of agencies have been working on the revisions all year.
Some people will discover they are now in evacuation areas that they were not aware of before.
Residents in Carpinteria and Montecito are encouraged to visit the interactive maps at https://www.ReadySBC.org.
Santa Barbara County Supervisor Das Williams lives in Carpinteria and said residents should look at their parcel location and if they are not in a mandatory evacuation area they have to take responsibility and make the call to evacuate if they sense danger.
He also said a majority of the people in the county have not signed up for aware and prepare alerts.
He encouraged people to opt in and to check and make sure they are signed up by logging onto https://www.awareandprepare.org.
A similar meeting will be held Dec. 12 in Montecito. And a meeting that will focus on Ready-Set-Go will be presented in Spanish on Dec. 10, at St. Joseph’s Church.
ASL interpretation will be available and Spanish interpretation will be available on Dec. 10.
