Futuristic classroom complex at Righetti High School nearly complete
A $22 million futuristic classroom complex is almost ready to open its doors to Righetti High School students.
Construction for 38 new classrooms has been underway for the last two years. Once complete, the project will help the school get rid of portable classrooms and add more parking space.
The classrooms will include technology like moveable whiteboard walls, big screen monitors, and other learning aids.
“We got heating, electric, wifi…all those things will be added on,” said Santa Maria Joint Union High School board member, D ominick Palera. ” If you look at the amount of concrete and steel, just looking around here it’s amazing. You wanna be here if there’s an earthquake -this building isn’t going anywhere.”
Some students had a chance to take a peek inside the new developments.
“I think it’s really modern, I think it’s gonna help us,” said 11th grade student Isaiah Moon. “It’s a fresh new learning environment. [The current classrooms] are kinda dated, hot inside, and just older.”
School officials expect the complex to be ready by next spring break.
The project is funded by tax bonds approved by voters in 2004.
