Pismo Beach Camp Fire office looking for new home
Youth outreach organization Camp Fire is looking for a new home for its administrative office after receiving a 60 day notice to vacate their current location on Pomeroy Street in Pismo Beach.
The Orpha Henry Youth Beach House on Pomeroy Street in Pismo Beach has been home to Camp Fire Central Coast for 15 years where a small and dedicated staff organize and operate school programs and popular summer camps.
“Where we’ve basically had free rent for the past 15 years with some minor costs for upkeep of the building”, said Camp Fire Central Coast Executive Director Ken Miles, “so by Thanksgiving we need to move our office space to another location that might serve youth as well.”
Camp Fire is a non-profit, youth outreach and development organization providing school programs and summer camps for local youth for decades.
“We are in the schools during school time, clubs during school time, in the summer we have two programs that have been around for many years”, Miles said, “Camp Tacanneko, we host a day camp at Camp Arroyo Grande in Arroyo Grande and we serve 200 kids there each summer season to kick off the summer, we also do six weeks of summer camp at our 360 acre camp site up in Paso Robles called Camp Natoma.”
The Orpha Henry Youth Beach House in Pismo Beach is also home to Amp Surf, the Association of Amputee Surfers which will also need to find a new location by Thanksgiving.
Camp Fire is hoping to find another generous property owner in the Five Cities area to move its small administrative office to.
“We hope to make a difference”, Miles said, “for the last 80 years we have helped tens of thousands of children and families and we look forward to continue doing that in the Five Cities area with a new office.”
“Number one is to support families and enrich their families, help them accomplish their intentions of raising kids in a healthy environment and to have lots of opportunities and connection to community”, Miles said, “we also are working with youth that do not have the kind of opportunity and we’re bringing our programming into schools and into the classroom to enrich their lives and to help them realize their fullest potential.”
