Oxnard police officer reportedly strikes man in road while responding to distress call

OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department reported that one of their officers struck a man with their vehicle while responding to a call for help on East Pleasant Valley Road early Saturday morning.

Police said the department received a call from a man asking for help around 3:31 a.m.

The officer responded to the location in the 200 Block of East Pleasant Valley Road, however, while they were driving to the scene, their vehicle reportedly struck a man who was lying in the road.

Emergency medical personnel were immediately called to the scene. Police said the man sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in stable condition.

The victim was described as a 27-year-old Hispanic man from Oxnard.

Traffic investigators responded to the scene to determine the cause and factors involved in the crash.

The investigators said that, based on preliminary information, they believe the victim may have been under the influence of drugs.
