Lives lost in late-night structure fire in Arroyo Grande

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Five Cities Fire and CAL FIRE crews responded to a structure fire on the edge of Arroyo Grande late Saturday night that took the lives of one person and a pet.
Firefighters received a call around 10:58 p.m. regarding a residential fire at a mobile home with reports of two victims trapped inside. Crews immediately dispatched to the 600 block of Halcyon Road, near The Pike.
The first arriving units on scene, reported the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames with immediate threats to other mobile homes.
Five Cities Fire said one victim was found already outside the home. That victim was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The fire was successfully knocked down by 11:30 p.m. with major damage to the entire building.
Fire crews were successful in keeping the fire mostly contained to the single unit, however, slight fire damage did occur to a neighboring mobile home.
Due to the unit's location, both San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies and Arroyo Grande police responded to the scene to assist with a search for additional victims and investigate.
Once the structure was deemed safe enough to enter, crews began their search and sadly found the body of one human and a pet dog, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim cannot be released at this time pending the coroner's investigation.
The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
