Oxnard police arrest 2 teens for back-to-back robberies with fake gun
OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department responded to a robbery on Saturday at the 7-Eleven on Patterson Road where two male teenagers reportedly held a clerk at gunpoint.
The robbery took place around 5:20 a.m. When police arrived on the scene, they found the clerk unharmed, but the teens had left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.
About 30 minutes later, while officers were still investigating the first robbery, a passing motorist told Oxnard police that there were a couple of suspicious individuals hanging out at the 7-Eleven on Fifth Street. He then gave police a description of the vehicle the suspicious people were using.
Officers said that while they were on their way to the second store, they were informed that another armed robbery had just occurred there.
Oxnard police responded multiple units to the neighborhoods in the area and located the suspect vehicle near the Oxnard Performing Arts Center.
The driver of the vehicle immediately sped out of the area in an attempt to evade the officers.
Police followed and said the driver drove into Durley Park where he lost control of the vehicle.
Officers quickly took the two occupants of the vehicle into custody and found the handgun and stolen money inside the car. The vehicle was found to have been stolen as well.
Police said, upon closer examination, they determined that the handgun was actually a non-functioning replica.
Both teens, a 16-year-old and 17-year-old, were arrested for the robberies, possession of the stolen vehicle and looting.
They were later lodged into juvenile hall.
