Oxnard police arrest gang member for loaded handgun

OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department Special Enforcement Unit (or gang unit) responded to a parked vehicle in the south alley of the 300 block of Canterbury Way.

The incident occurred at 3:55 p.m. on Friday. The officers found four subjects by the illegally parked car drinking alcohol in public.

Officers identified one of the four as 19-year-old Edwin Garcia and determined that Garcia and the other three were known criminal street gang members in Oxnard.

The officers searched the parked car and reportedly found a loaded 40 caliber Glock 23 handgun in Garcia's possessions.

Police said the Glock was determined to be a finished 80 percent frame Glock and was not registered to Garcia.

Garcia was arrested that afternoon for various firearm related charges.
