ShelterBox USA providing emergency shelter for those displaced across Gaza
SUMMERLAND, Calif. - According to International disaster relief organization ShelterBox USA, the on-going conflict in Gaza has displaced 83 percent of the population, with more than 1.7 million people without adequate shelter.
"It’s a tough situation right now … millions of people are stuck in Rafah … without food ... security," said humanitarian director of strategic partnerships Serena Kelsch of ShelterBox USA.
ShelterBox USA is responding to the conflict by delivering shelter aid to those displaced.
"Working with local partners within Gaza to distribute basic things like water carriers blankets the things they need to survive," said Kelsch.
In addition, the organization is providing its humanitarian relief tents, which will become temporary homes for displaced families.
"Many of these families have been continually displaced. In Rafah where there are more than 600,000 people without homes… there are tents people can live in and, move .. if they have to," said president Kerri Murray of ShelterBox USA.
Right now ShelterBox is planning to send more aid to Gaza as borders open.
In order to strengthen its resources, ShelterBox is working in partnership with the Montecito Rotary Club for financial support.
"Our partnership with ShelterBox is so important because it sends a message to the world that humanitarianism is alive and well," said president Tony Morris of the Montecito Rotary Club.
Whether it’s serving people in war-torn situations or natural disasters, ShelterBox USA plans to continue its efforts with the help of local partners where help is needed.
