UCSB planning events for students to prevent wild parties on Halloween

UCSB

UC Santa Barbara is taking steps to prevent any major issues this Halloween.

Isla Vista has a history of massive crowds and large parties during the holiday, however, in recent years, the number of issues and arrests has decreased significantly.

The campus is once again planning several events and enforcing stricter rules to prevent parties from getting out of hand. Most of the arrests over the past two decades had been people from out-of-town who wanted to celebrate the holiday.

This year, the campus will again host a concert at the Events Center. There are also roller skating events and dances planned to provide an alternative to the party scene.

There will also be restrictions on guests. No overnight guests can stay in campus residence halls or university-owned apartments from Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27 and again from Thursday, October 31 through Sunday, November 3.

The campus will be closed to visitor parking this Friday and Saturday, as well as next Thursday through Saturday. The restrictions will be lifted during normal business hours, between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Police roadblocks may be in place at several intersections in Isla Vista this Friday through Sunday and again next Thursday.

A noise ordinance will also be in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday, October 26 through 7 a.m. Monday, November 4.

The City of Goleta is also enforcing parking restrictions around Halloween.
