Local nonprofit gives thousands to support hygiene program in San Luis Obispo County
A San Luis Obispo nonprofit organization announced Sunday that it received a grant to support the organization’s mobile hygiene service.
Hope’s Village received a $5,000 grant from The Right to Shower, which is the newest brand from a British-Dutch transnational consumer goods company.
The funds are going to Hope’s Village’s service called Showers of Hope and were given around the two-year anniversary of the program.
“We’ve provided close to 3,000 showers for our unhoused neighbors who have had no other access
to cleanliness for years,” says Becky Jorgeson, Hope’s Village Founder & President. “This generous
gift from The Right to Shower will help us reach more people, enable them to feel better about
themselves and the situation they are currently in, and combat the spread of disease.”
According to Hope’s Village, The Right to Shower is a sustainable brand that is committed to giving back over time; The Right to Shower will give 100 percent of its profits in its first year to support mobile shower initiatives that are in place to help those currently experiencing homelessness across the country.
“We’re committed to improving the health and well-being of people living on the streets. To that, we are
partnering with mobile shower organizations across the country to help provide reliable, safe and free
access to showers and other basic hygiene needs, services often unrecognized but proven to be
critical in improving welfare,” says Sonali Doshi, Global Brand Manager & Founding Member of The Right To Shower.
Showers of Hope launched in 2017 and has provided gently used clean clothing, new underwear and socks, backpacks, tents, food and more ever since the program started.
