Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum expands its musical library

Two conga drums and a collection of Soprano Pentatonic Freechimes are now a part of the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, thanks to an anonymous donation.

The museum is excited to offer more hands-on opportunities for children to play and learn about music. It believes music helps to support children’s all-around development and shapes their skills in concentration, memory, and listening. Executive Director, Nancy Gastelum said “In a free-play environment, where there are no wrong notes, the experience can lead to a life-long love of music and music making.”

The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum is the only children’s museum in Northern Santa Barbara County. It’s 13,000-square-feet space features hands-on exhibits, weekly programs and special events.

The museum is located at 705 S. McClelland Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m.
