Starr King Rummage Sale and SB Historical Arms & Blade Show at Earl Warren Showgrounds

Two popular shows are happening this weekend at the Earl Warren Showgrounds: the Starr King Rummage Sale, an annual event dating back to the 1950’s, and the 60th Santa Barbara Historical Arms and Blade Show.

Volunteers spent the bulk of Friday in the back building of the Showgrounds setting up the one-day rummage sale. Proceeds benefit the local preschool program.

Shoppers will find a trove of treasures from furniture and art to clothes and kitchenware.

This year’s gems include a coin-op slot machine, a vintage ship compass and a 1946 edition of ‘Treasure Island’ in very good condition.

“This year what I’ve noticed is our toy section with our vintage toys,” said Nani DeCambra, a volunteer and grandmother. “There are so many of them from different eras — the little clacker toys from the 30’s and 40’s. And a lot of Star Wars for the older kids.”

“We have a lot of cool, vintage children’s books,” said Toni Flenniken, a longtime parent volunteer. “We have a Beverly Clearly from 1950 and it’s actually worth a lot of money and most people probably wouldn’t know that by just looking at it.”

Next door, in the front building, volunteers spent Friday setting up tables for this weekend’s two-day Historical Arms & Blade Show, put on by the Santa Barbara Historical Arms Association. Two men who did not want to go on camera said this event features vintage pieces only, 50-years and older.
