One Sears closes and another stays strong on the Central Coast
Sears released a list of the 63 stores that it plans to close by September on Thursday. On that list, there are no corporate or “full-line” stores on the Central Coast planned to close. However, a Sears Hometown store in Lompoc has announced they will close but not because of Sears corporate.
Sears Hometown in Lompoc announced that they will be closing their doors on June 30. The store manager says that Sears Hometown is a franchise and the owners of the store did not want to pay the property owner’s increase in rent.
The store manager says the employees at the hometown store will need to find new employment.
There is a store closing sale with prices cut by 30% on some appliances and tools.
Down the coast in Santa Barbara, the Sears at La Cumbre Plaza says their store is going strong and renewed their lease for another 20 years back in 2015.
Todd Wilson, the store general manager, says the Sears in Santa Barbara is one of the better performing full-line stores in the district, which includes Los Angeles.
The Sears at La Cumbre Plaza has been there since 1967 and Wilson says they are there to stay.
