Multiple people stabbed in gang-related incident on State Street in Santa Barbara

At least five people were injured late Saturday night following a gang-related fight on State Street in Santa Barbara.

At around 11 p.m., Santa Barbara police responded to the 600 block of State Street for a report of a fight. On the first block of East Cota Street, officers located a 35-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds and a 26-year-old woman who had been beaten.

Another victim, a 21-year-old known gang member, was found nearby behind Cost Plus World Market furniture store. He had suffered injuries to his shoulder and head.

While at the scene, police received word that two 26-year-old men had arrived at Cottage Hospital suffering from stab wounds.

During the investigation, police determined that the 35-year-old man and the 26-year-old woman were inside Baja Sharkeez at 525 State Street. The man became involved with someone he identified as a local gang member. The man and woman recognized other gang members inside the night club and decided to leave.

The man and woman were pursued by at least two suspects and assaulted. The man was stabbed multiple times and the woman was beaten by the suspects.

Two men that were walking across the street saw the altercation and intervened. They were both stabbed by the suspects and were transported to the hospital by a friend. Those men were identified as the two victims who arrived at Cottage Hospital.

State Street was blocked off as police searched the area for suspects and investigated the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.

None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing but the incident is believed to be gang-related.
