Santa Maria man arrested for fabricating robbery story

A Santa Maria man who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint has been arrested for filing a false police report.

Investigators say KC Dopp, 25, told Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies that two men approached him in the bathroom at Rooney’s Irish Pub located on the 200 block of S. Broadway Street in Orcutt.

Dopp claimed one of the men showed a gun and drove him to an ATM where he was forced to take out cash. Dopp said the men dropped him back off at the bar after he handed over the cash.

Deputies reviewed surveillance video and said Dopp fabricated the story.

Dopp was arrested at his residence and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on a complaint of filing a false police report.
