Lompoc police arrest man accused of stealing laptop from former employer

A Santa Maria man was arrested Thursday after police say he stole a laptop from his former workplace.

In January, Lompoc Police Department investigated a theft of an HP Laptop computer from a business in Lompoc.

The investigation began to focus on Xavier Edward McNutt, 29, of Santa Maria. McNutt was a former employee who was fired from the business in November.

On Thursday evening, police detectives and county probation officers contacted McNutt at his residence on the 500 block of East Park Ave. in Santa Maria. McNutt is currently on felony probation with full search and seizure.

Detectives located the stolen laptop and other items believed to have been stolen from the business.

A search of McNutt’s home also turned up a handgun with a loaded magazine.

McNutt was arrested by detectives and transported back to the Lompoc Police Department, where he was booked in connection to multiple felony charges.

Those possible charges include possession of stolen property, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation, and embezzlement
