Crews working to repair broken gas pipe in Santa Barbara’s Eastside

SoCal Gas crews worked quickly to fix a broken gas pipe in Santa Barbara’s Eastside Thursday morning.

Santa Barbara City fire crews responded to the area of Indio Muerto Street and Canada Street after receiving reports of a gas odor. Crews quickly discovered the broken gas pipe and sealed off the area.

Indio Muerto between Canada Street and Voluntario Street was closed off to thru traffic and detours signs went up. Yellow caution tape was placed at each intersection in the immediate area.

Residents were allowed to exit the yellow tape zone but it was unclear if they were allowed back in.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the pipe break is unknown at this time. The incident is under investigation.
