Second Confirmed Zika Infection in Santa Barbara County

On Wednesday, the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department confirmed the county’s second travel-related Zika case.

Health officials say a woman who was not pregnant became infected with the virus during a recent trip to Mexico.

Officials did not say what part of Mexico the woman had visited. They also didn’t say where in Santa Barbara County she resides. Health officials say they anticipate the number of Zika cases in the county to increase.

The Public Health Department says none of the mosquitoes tested by the Mosquito and Vector Management District of Santa Barbara have tested positive for Zika thus far. Residents may see Vector Control around the community placing traps as they continue to trap and test the mosquito population.
