Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Accident in Paso Robles

The 22-year-old charged with causing a head on collision by traveling the wrong way down Highway 101 early Wednesday morning was drunk at the time of the crash, according to police.

Also released today are the identities of the passengers in the victim’s vehicle. Rotsen Y. Victoriano, 29, of San Luis Obispo who sitting in the front passenger seat and sustained major injuries. The backseat passenger 26-year-old Ken Cordova of Atascadero was not wearing a seat belt and also sustained major injuries.

The driver of the car traveling in the wrong direction Lauren Alyssa Aldrete was airlifted to a Fresno hospital due to the severity of her injuries, but not before she was charged with DUI.

Twenty-six year Lindsay Faye Matzie of Los Osos lost her life in the accident.

One person is dead and three people are injured after a vehicle drove the wrong way on U.S. 101 early Wednesday morning in Paso Robles.

Investigators have identified the deceased victim as 26-year-old Lindsay Faye Matzie of Los Osos.

According to California Highway Patrol, at around 3 a.m. there was a report of a wrong way driver going northbound on US-101 in the southbound lanes.

22-year-old Lauren Alderet of Paso Robles, was driving a 2012 Ford northbound when it collided with a 2003 Toyota traveling southbound on US-101.

Alderet was alone in her vehicle and sustained major injuries. CHP has not ruled out drugs or alcohol as contributing factors.

Matzie died at the scene, and her male and female passengers sustained both major and moderate injuries.

CHP closed both lanes of US-101 southbound for about 30 minutes Wednesday morning, but then reopened one lane for traffic to pass by.

The California Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was on scene investigating due to the seriousness of the collision.
