Unclaimed Funds Found On State Controller Site

California’s new controller Betty T. Yee is now in charge of returning more than $7 billion in unclaimed funds to about 28 million people.

People who may have forgotten about a bank account, a safe deposit box or a dividend can check for themselves by going to: Http://www.sco.ca.gov/upd_resources_browser.html

But beware of sites that ask you to send money– they are bogus.

The state will return the funds electronically if the amount is less than $1,000.

A recent report by the Legislative Analysts Office says the state should do more to return the money or property to its rightful owners.

Currently the state can borrow against the value of the unclaimed property.

By law businesses can’t keep money or property left behind and must turn it over to the state.

Other state links can be found online too by going to www.unclaimed.org
