San Marcos Football Player Faces Vandalism Charges
Janet Hewitt said her son, Robert, told her after football practice last month that he had torn down a poster that had a derogatory invitation to a party and a hashtag with his name on it. He said it told people to bring women and drugs. He said the message was on the back of a campaign sign that had been turned around.
This month he received a letter from probation that said he was being charged with vandalism.
Lt. Butch Arnoldi said the victim is a student who was running for office in San Marcos high. Arnoldi said the student saw Hewitt tear the orange poster down and crumple it up. The poster in question is now in an evidence room at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Hewitt’s mother said she thinks the campus resource officer is behind the charge and she is defending her son.
