Make-A-Wish Foundation grants Santa Barbara boy’s wish

A 9-year-old Santa Barbara boy battling cancer had his wish granted for a laptop computer on Tuesday.

Juan Morales Fonseca was diagnosed 10 months ago with Rhabdomyosarcoma or R-M-S, a type of muscle cancer that attaches to the bone. Since then, Fonseca and his family have been visiting Cottage Hospital where Juan has made quite an impression.

“He has gone through a lot of really extensive, scary, hard treatments,” his nurse, Pam Rodriguez said. “He’s doing excellent, he’s almost done with his treatment.”

His final treatment will be in August so it was perfect timing when Pediatric Oncology social worker Robyn Howard-Anderson recommended Juan to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. And the foundation came through.

It was all a surprise for Juan and his mother, Sarah. They normally visit the hospital by bus. Not this time. They were picked up by a limo and driven to a park just outside the hospital doors where nurses, hospital staff and the Make-A-Wish Foundation were waiting to make their day.

With a huge smile on his face, Juan’s wish became a reality. With the help of the Best Buy Geek Squad, a computer, tablet and several accessories to go with them were handed over to Juan. And he couldn’t have been happier.
