Westlake headed to CIF championship game in boys basketball
The football school will play for a CIF title in boys basketball. Despite scoring just four points in the first quarter, Westlake High School rallied to beat Tesoro 60-51 in a Division 2A semifinal game. Westlake will play Redondo Union for the championship on Saturday at the Anaheim Arena at 2 p.m.
The Warriors trailed 15-4 after one quarter and they were down eight at halftime. But Larry Bush’s inside bucket at the end of the third quarter gave Westlake a 41-38 heading into the final quarter. The Warriors pulled away from there to punch their ticket to the finals.
Winning CIF championships is nothing new at Westlake as the football team has a handful of titles including two in the past four years. But this will be the Warriors first CIF championship game appearance in boys basketball since 1987.
