1 new COVID-19 death reported in Southern Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department announced the third death from COVID-19 in the county on Thursday.

This person is described as a south county resident who was over the age of 75 and had underlying health conditions.

Public Health also said this person was on hospice care when they passed away. It is still unclear where this person was receiving hospice care and how they contracted the virus.

With the new death count, Public Health announced 20 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county on Thursday bringing the total to 354. So far, 137 of those who tested positive have fully recovered from the virus.

Eight of Thursday's new cases were at the Lompoc Prison which has been seeing an outbreak for some time now. This brings the total number of confirmed cases at the prison to 74.

Thirty-nine patients are hospitalized for the virus with 14 of those patients in the ICU.
