Goleta City Council – District 4 candidate: Eric Gordon
Candidate Name:Eric Gordon
Position Sought:Goleta City Council – District 4
Website / Social Media:www.gordon4goleta.com
Why are you running for office?
To try and reclaim our small coastal town charm that we are losing to big-city dreams and spending projects proposed by our current city government. Also just back to basics like well maintained roads, infrastructure, and local events we have lost over the years such as 4th-of-July Fireworks at Girsh Park.
What makes you qualified for this position?
I am a businessman and father/family man. I know how to say "No" and how to push back against state mandates and tax increases.
What are the two hardest issues facing the candidate who wins the office you are running for?
State housing mandates and already accrued unfunded project debt load.
How do you plan to address the issue of inflation and its impacts on your constituents if elected?
Not much a city council member can do, except say no to any new taxes and permitting fees.
What major crime issues do you plan to address if elected and how?
It's Goleta, not any major crime here to speak of; but our GPD resources are stretched pretty thin. Open the books and take a look at existing GPD contracts and responsibilities.
How do you plan to address the issue of housing if elected?
My main concern is that this is a small town with very limited resources. This city needs to stop putting the cart before the horse. There should be no new housing developments without 1st new roads, water supplies, sewer and gas, electric lines and grids, and plans to mitigate traffic congestion for the influx of new people. I'm not against development, but not at the cost of the very reason we chose Goleta to live in the 1st place.
What do you hope to accomplish in your first year in office if elected?
Learn the system and meet the administrative staff, find out about their concerns, then open the books, talk to the other councilmembers, and see what can be done about projects already planned, talk with neighbors and constituents about what they would like to see happen. 1st year try and stop or pause any new development projects that do not make sense for Goleta at this juncture.
What actions do you plan to take to reduce political divide?
Try not to get involved in the big national political issues as they are not applicable to this job. Neither Trump nor Harris or any media figures are going to come here and fix potholes.
