Camarillo couple charged for unlawfully selling cars on Craigslist

A couple from Camarillo face 19 felony charges for using Craigslist to make fraudulent car sales.

Ventura County District Attorney Gregory D. Totten announced the charges levied Bridgette Loraine Gallo, 42, and Richard Cory Neal, 39, both of Camarillo.

The couple are accused of conspiring to commit grand theft by false pretenses. The couple would sell vehicles on Craigslist without telling the buyer that the cars were subject to liens.

Once the vehicles were purchased with cash, Gallo and Neal would then notify the lienholders and the cars were repossessed.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the California Department of Motor Vehicles Investigation and other agencies with the Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force conducted the investigation.

Gallo and Neal were both arraigned on Tuesday and both entered not-guilty pleas.

The case will head to court on September 27.

Gallo faces a maximum sentence of 15 years and 8 months in state prison. Neal is facing a maximum sentence of 18 years in state prison.

Both defendants are in custody at the Ventura County jail on $150,000 bail, reduced from the initial $500,000 bail.
