2017 Santa Barbara County Fair tops previous year’s numbers

The 2017 Santa Barbara County Fair beat out the attendance numbers set by the previous year’s event.

This year’s fair brought nearly 10,000 more visitors than the 2016 fair with a total attendance of 158,652.

The fair also saw sales for carnival rides increase 9 percent and food and beverage sales showing an increase of about 6 percent.

Fair organizers attributed the increase in attendance to the large names that performed during the four night Bud Light Concert Series on the KCOY main Stage. Gabriel Iglesias, .38 Special, John Michael Montgomery, and Leann Rimes all appeared as part of the series.

The Gabriel Iglesias show is believed to have brought in the largest crowd ever for a main stage act at the Santa Barbara County Fair.

Santa Maria Fairpark CEO Richard Persons said they are thrilled with the results of the 2017 fair.

“It indicates that the community appreciates what a great value the Fair is, with strong entertainment, great food, fun rides, lots of animals, and great weather,” Persons said. “The strong showing at the gate tells us that we put together the right combination of promotions and attractions to interest people, even with two large wildfires to compete with.”
