Hill Fire in SLO County 100% contained, 1,598 acres burned

June 30, 2017

[2:30 p.m. PDT] – The Hill Fire is now 100 percent contained with the official acreage at this time standing at 1,598, according to CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo. All crews are reportedly being released with only a local engine company patrolling the area through the weekend.

[7:30 a.m. PDT] – Fire officials now say the Hill Fire is 95 percent contained with no increase in acreage.

June 29, 2017

[5:30 p.m. PDT] – CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo now reports the Hill Fire is 88 percent contained with acreage remaining at 1,598. CAL FIRE SLO tweeted that another home was discovered destroyed making the total number of homes destroyed by the Hill Fire four.

[7:42 a.m. PDT] – Containment at 85%, acreage burned remains at 1,598.

June 28, 2017

[5:00 p.m. PDT] – Cal Fire San Luis Obispo officials said the fire is contained at 75% and remains at 1,598 acres. All road closures have been lifted.

[10:00 a.m. PDT] – Fire containment has reached 65%, acres burned stands at right around 1,600. Highway 58 has reopened.

June 27, 2017

[5:56 p.m. PDT] – Evacuation orders for all residents affected by the Hill Fire will be lifted at 7 p.m. Non-residents will continue to be restricted from the fire area. Residents will be allowed to return home after 7 p.m.

The following road closures will remain in effect:

Highway 58 and Huer Huero Road Highway 58 and Parkhill Road Parkhill Road and Huer Huero Road.

Fire officials ask residents to drive slowly and be mindful of fire crews and equipment in the area. They also advise residents to be aware of dangers along the roadway. PG&E has been working to restore power to the homes affected by the fire.

The Red Cross evacuation center will be closing after repopulation takes place.

[5:45 p.m. PDT] – As the Hill Fire hit the 24-hour mark since it began Monday afternoon, CAL FIRE officials are reporting containment at 60 percent and 1,600 acres burned.

[2:36 p.m. PDT] – Fire officials are reporting the Hill Fire has now scorched a whopping 1,500 acres and it’s approximately 40-45% contained.

[7:19 a.m. PDT] – CAL FIRE says the Hill Fire is now 40% contained. It remains at 1,200 acres burned.

[3:55 a.m. PDT] – The Hill Fire is now 10% contained.

EVACUATIONS

Parkhill Road east of Oak Canyon including La Entrada, Stagecoach Canyon Road to Huer Huero Road. North of Parkhill Road to Wilson Creek Road, Katacreek Road, Golden Pond Way, Random Canyon Way to Horseshoe Canyon Road.

Evacuations are also ordered for the area of Huer Huero Road to Highway 58 including Black Mountain Resort Road, Blue Road, Blue Ridge Road east of Shooting Star Road, south to Golden Pond Way and back to Random Canyon Road.

SHELTER

The American Red Cross is opening an Evacuation Shelter at Santa Margarita Elementary School by 7 p.m. The school is located at 22070 H Street.

JUNE 26, 2017

[11:00 p.m. PDT] – The Hill Fire has grown to 1,200 acres. The fire is at 5 percent containment. A news briefing will take place Tuesday at 7 a.m. at Camp San Luis Obispo.

[9:30 p.m. PDT] – Highway 58 east of Santa Margarita from Parkhill Road to Creston Road is closed each way due to the Hill Fire. Road blocks are manned by California Highway Patrol and any unauthorized people will be turned back.

[9:15 p.m. PDT] – At least one structure was destroyed by flames from the Hill Fire. Our reporter on scene said a double-wide trailer burned to the ground and several animals were killed as a result.

[8:15 p.m. PDT] – Hill Fire has grown to over 900 acres according to CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo.

[7:45 p.m. PDT] – 250 residents have been evacuated from their homes due to the Hill Fire.

[7:12 p.m. PDT] – The California Highway Patrol has requested a flatbed truck to recover evidence from a car fire that was reported near the area of Parkhill at Rue de Leon. It’s unclear if or how this vehicle is connected to the Hill Fire.

[6:01 p.m. PDT] – Hill Fire has now scorched 500 acres according to CAL FIRE officials.

[5:54 p.m. PDT] – Hill Fire has grown to 300 acres according to CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo.

[5:40 p.m. PDT] – Evacuations are underway for the Hill Fire burning near Santa Margarita. See below for locations.

[4:44 p.m. PDT] – CAL FIRE officials say the Hill Fire is now estimated to be over 100 acres. Parkhill Road is closed in the immediate area.

Fire crews are working to extinguish a vegetation fire that sparked near Santa Margarita in San Luis Obispo County Monday afternoon.

The Hill Fire sparked near 4750 Parkhill Road east of Santa Margarita at around 3:20 p.m.

By 4:20 p.m. the fire had spread to over 25 acres and officials said some houses were threatened.

The California Highway Patrol log said that the fire was sparked by a vehicle fire that spread to nearby brush.

Cal Fire San Luis Obispo said additional air resources and engine crews were called to combat the fire.
