Ojai man arrested after live streaming himself violating his parole

An Ojai man was arrested Friday afternoon after police say he live streamed video of himself violating his parole.

At around 4:30 p.m., Ventura Police Department received word that 22-year-old Ivan Reyes, a known convicted felon, was live streaming video of himself handling a firearm and ingesting narcotics on a social media site.

Detectives found the video online and were able to identify Reyes.

Ventura police detectives and the Ventura County Sheriffs’ Department responded to the Ojai neighborhood where Reyes lives and observed Reyes outside the home holding an object concealed and wrapped in an article of clothing.

Officers moved in and detained Reyes and discovered the object he was holding was a .357 revolver, similar to the one he was seen handling earlier online.

Reyes was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Ventura Police Department for questioning.

Investigators learned that the recovered firearm was reported stolen from a residential burglary in Ventura in 2015.

Reyes was transported to the Ventura County Main Jail where he was booked for violating his parole and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Investigators are trying to determine how Reyes came to be in possession of the stolen revolver. Additional charges may be filed in connection to the recovered handgun.

The investigation is ongoing, anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Ventura Police Department Street Crimes Unit at (805) 339-4325.
