Fire contained on Cebada Canyon Road

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday the Cooper Fire is fully contained. Captain Sadecki said the fire grew to an estimated ten acres.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Santa Barbara County firefighters and city crews were aggressively responding to a fire burning on the 2700 block of Cebada Canyon Road, in hilly terrain, roughly six miles from the city of Lompoc.

The flames broke out at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday; fire officials are referring to this as the “Cooper Incident.”

Tankers battling the flames from above, while ground crews and structure protection moved into place.

Flames were quickly spreading, according to the California Patrol Highway’s website. CHP officials said all road closures have been lifted.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies helped to evacuate homes on Avena Street.

Winds are roughly 10 to 15 miles an hour, temperatures are in the low 70s.
