Santa Barbara officials hope for record tourism year

It could be a record year for tourism in Santa Barbara. Another cruise ship made a stop in the city Tuesday. This time it was Princess Cruises’ Sapphire Princess. The ship brought about 3,000 tourists.

Downtown Organization officials say the No. 1 destination is the Santa Barbara Mission. Also topping tourists travel lists: the Santa Barbara courthouse and shopping on State Street.

City officials believe every passenger spends about $200 while they’re here. City officials are hoping for record-setting sales tax revenue from the cruise ship passengers this year. Ships are scheduled to stop in Santa Barbara 22 times now through fall, the highest number the city has ever seen.
